In her recent interview for Vogue magazine, Australian rapper Iggy Azalea openly discussed receiving breast implants and her reasons for having the breast augmentation procedure done.
Some have criticized Ms. Azalea for “admitting” to having breast augmentation surgery. Why? There’s no reason to keep this a secret. In fact, it’s honest and admirable to let fans know not only that you had help from a plastic surgeon, but your reasons for doing so. Having the information may actually help other women.
As Iggy Azalea mentions in her interview with Vogue, “It’s all about proportion. I have to have everything tailored because I have such a small waist. I’m a 2 or a 0 on the top, and a 6 on the bottom.”
Many women have concerns over either the size of their breasts or the proportion between the breasts and the other parts of their bodies. Women athletes have been known to get a breast reduction surgery when their breast size is getting in the way of athletic performance. Celebrities get breast enhancements, rhinoplasties and other cosmetic procedures they feel will make them look more attractive and help them succeed in their chosen professions.
There is no reason that a woman in any walk of like should not be aware of breast augmentation surgery and how it has benefited those actresses, singers and models they so admire.
Breast augmentation is the most requested cosmetic surgery procedure in the world. Internationally there were 1,773,584 such procedures performed in 2013 (the last year for which data has been compiled). In the United States alone, 290,000 women had their breasts enhanced that same year.
What are the choices a woman has when it comes to having a breast enhancement procedure?
Fat transfer breast augmentation may be a good option for women seeking a relatively small increase in breast size. During this procedure your surgeon uses liposuction to remove fat from other parts of your body. This fat is them specially prepared and injected into the breasts. The increase in size is typically modest, but the advantage is the natural results that can be obtained by using a woman’s own fat.
The most common breast augmentation procedures involve the surgical placement of implants in the breasts to increase fullness or improve the balance and symmetry of the breasts. This is the procedure the plastic surgeon performed on Iggy Azalea.
Types and choices of breast implants include:
Saline Breast Implants – These are implants filled with sterile salt water. They provide uniform shape, firmness and feel.
Silicone Breast Implants – Implants of this type are filled with silicone gel, which feels more like natural breast tissue than the saline fill. Choosing silicone implants requires regular MRI scans to ensure that the implants are intact.
Gummy Bear Breast Implants – Technically called form-stable implants, gummy bear breast implants do not “leak”. These implants are tear drop shaped, rather than round, with more projection at the bottom and tapering toward the top.
Round Breast Implants – Round breast implants tend to make the breast look fuller than gummy bear breast implants do. Also, due to their round shape, there is less concern about them rotating out of place, causing a peculiar appearance to the breast.
Iggy Azalea should not be criticized for being honest. It is far better for grown women, young and adult, who are worried about their breast size, to know that the celebrities they admire for their appearances have sometimes had help getting the size and proportions they wanted.
