Abdominoplasty / Tummy Tuck in New Jersey
Would you like to reduce your waist size?
Reducing your waist size and belly fat is not only a matter of your appearance, but also your health. Health researchers have found that a “spare tire” or excess abdominal fat are bad for the health of your heart and vascular system.
You may be a candidate for a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) if you have:
- Excess stomach fat
- Sagging abdominal skin
- Protruding belly out of proportion to your shape
Rid yourself of stomach bulges and improve your appearance.
Everyone wants a flat stomach. But with aging, gravity, weight gain or loss, or pregnancy, your stomach can stretch, revealing unsightly bulges, rolls of fat, and a protruding belly. If you have an excess of loose abdominal skin or your abdominal muscles have separated and weakened, an abdominoplasty with Dr. Ganchi in New Jersey may be right for you. If you have tried dieting and exercising, but still have fat and loose skin around your middle, tummy tuck surgery can help you:
- Remove pockets of accumulated fat
- Restore muscle tone after pregnancy
- Smooth and tighten loose skin
- Narrow the waistline
- Minimize stretch marks, especially in the lower abdomen
- Tighten abdominal muscles
- Create a flat, firm stomach
How is a tummy tuck performed?
During Dr. Ganchi’s initial consultation, he will discuss various options, based on your body shape and cosmetic expectations, to improve your appearance. As part of the examination, he will evaluate your skin tone, degree of loose skin and muscle, and amount of fat.
The surgical options include:
- Mini-tummy tuck (limited abdominoplasty) – a procedure limited to the skin and fat deposits below the navel. Dr. Ganchi performs this procedure in his New Jersey clinic under anesthesia in an outpatient setting.
- Full tummy tuck surgery(abdominoplasty) – a procedure on the entire abdomen to tighten muscles and remove excess skin and fat. This may be done in conjunction with liposuction to remove fat from the hips and love handles for a more pleasing overall body contour. Like a Mini-tummy tuck, Dr. Ganchi performs this procedure with anesthesia and it is usually an outpatient procedure.
Where is the incision for an abdominoplasty?
While there are several approaches to a tummy tuck, all involve an incision in the lower abdomen in the area below the “bikini line.” For a complete tummy tuck, skin is separated from the abdominal wall up to the ribs. Then, underlying muscles and supportive tissues are stitched together, narrowing the waistline and strengthening and flattening the abdominal wall. Excess skin is drawn down and removed, resulting in a flatter, trimmer stomach. Dr. Ganchi will review different incision options in advance of surgery so you will know what to expect.
What about recovery after tummy tuck?
Each patient is unique. Your recovery time will depend upon the total treatment plan. You will have some swelling and bruising, and may experience some discomfort and tightness for the first two weeks. We will prescribe medication to ease your discomfort. Dr. Ganchi uses dissolving stitches, so they do not need to be removed. You will wear an abdominal binder to support your muscles while they heal. You will also have drains for several days. We will closely monitor your progress during your recovery.
When can I return to normal activities after a tummy tuck?
Most of our patients are able to return to work in 2 to 3 weeks. If you were exercising before surgery, you will be in the best condition to recover most rapidly. It will take about 4 weeks to return to all normal activities and exercise. Dr. Ganchi and his friendly staff will work with you on an individual treatment and recovery plan based on your surgery and needs.
Are there any side effects from tummy tuck surgery?
Over the next few weeks, any bruising, swelling or tenderness will subside. You will, however, retain scars that are generally covered by most bathing suits or underpants. These scars will continue to fade over a period of a year, if not longer.
How long will the results last?
Unless you gain weight or become pregnant, you should enjoy your taut shapely figure for years to come. Your clothes will fit better and you’ll find increased confidence in your appearance. Dr. Ganchi believes it is important to begin an exercise program to maintain your new look and to increase your health and fitness.
