Buccal Fat Removal
The buccal fat pads are walnut-sized fat deposits located deep within the cheeks, situated between the nostril and the corner of the mouth. (In Latin the word bucca means cheek.)
Buccal fat removal is a simple procedure designed to help patients that have full, round or “chubby” cheeks achieve a more sculpted, athletic facial appearance.
The buccal fat pads are what give babies their cute, chubby faces. As a person grows older this fat disappears and the face takes on a more defined, adult appearance. Cheekbones and jawbones become more distinct and the face begins looking longer and more elegant.
The buccal fat pads are located in the lower portion of the face and when they are large they can give a person the appearance of “chubby” or “chipmunk” cheeks. The condition of having larger buccal pads can be hereditary or is sometimes due to weight gain.
During buccal fat removal, these oversized pads of fat are removed, resulting in improved facial contours, and enhancement of the cheek hollow. The overall look is a thinner, more chiseled countenance and higher cheekbones. Properly done, the subtle change provided by buccal fat removal looks thoroughly normal, not drastic or unnatural. Most people will simply think you have lost weight.
The procedure is non-invasive, scarless and has quick healing and recovery time.
