What Happens During Neck Lipo?
At the start of neck liposuction, sedation anesthesia is administered for patient comfort. Next, tiny incisions are created. These may be made in the region beneath the chin (called the submental area) and behind the earlobes as needed.
A cannula is then inserted into one of the incisions. It is used to loosen the stubborn fat cells in the area, making removal easier. Medical suction is applied, removing the loosened fatty tissue from the neck.
What’s the Difference Between Neck Lipo and a Neck Lift?
Neck liposuction is specifically used to remove excess fatty tissue from areas of the neck. Liposuction is the only technique utilized during it.
A neck lift, on the other hand, can be used to address several types of tissues. It often involves a combination of techniques to contour the neck. Liposuction may be employed to remove fat. Scalpel excision can be used, in which excess sagging neck skin is trimmed away. The drooping platysma muscles in the neck can also be rejoined and tightened with internal sutures.
Neck liposuction is usually a shorter procedure than the neck lift. Additionally, because it is less invasive than a neck lift and does not involve changes to the skin or muscles, neck lipo typically requires a shorter recovery process.
Which Type of Anesthesia Is Used for Neck Lipo?
Usually, a combination of local anesthesia and sedation is administered for neck liposuction. General anesthesia should not be necessary, since the volume of fat being removed is comparatively small.
Will I Be Left with Excess Skin After Neck Lipo?
The answer to this question varies from patient to patient based on a number of factors. Generally, if a patient is young, has a high degree of skin elasticity, and does not have sagging neck skin, they should not notice excess skin after liposuction. The skin will safely be able to shrink back down to fit the area’s new contours.
However, if a patient is older and does not have strong skin elasticity, the likelihood of sagging skin is higher. In cases like these, a neck lift may be recommended. Dr. Ganchi can help determine if you will need a neck lift or neck liposuction after examining you.
What Is Neck Lipo Recovery Like?
During neck liposuction recovery, there may be a degree of bruising and/or swelling in the treated areas. These will fade over time. To aid in this process, keep your head and neck elevated at all times. Pillows can help keep the head elevated overnight. Applying a cold compress can also reduce swelling.
If you feel any pain or discomfort, pain-control medication may be taken as directed. Antibiotics will be prescribed to help prevent infections.
Typically, patients can return to their daily activities, including work, in just three to four days. Strenuous exercise must be avoided for around four weeks.
