Immediately Following Neck Liposuction
The patient can go home right after the neck liposuction procedure. The patient must arrange in advance for a friend or family member to drive them home, because it is unsafe for the patient to drive due to the anesthesia used during the procedure.
Patients are instructed to get plenty of rest after their neck lipo procedure. This allows for improved healing.
General Recovery Instructions for Neck Liposuction
The post-operative recovery instructions given to the patient may include some, if not all, of the following:
- Regularly applying antibiotic ointment to the incisions
- Wearing the support garment, which will guide the skin during the recovery process
- Keeping the neck positioned properly for optimal healing
Medications will be prescribed to help deal with post-operative pain and discomfort. Pain after neck lipo is usually mild. Antibiotics will also be prescribed to prevent infections.
Patients must avoid taking aspirin or ibuprofen to avoid increasing the risk of bleeding. Certain foods and beverages should be avoided depending on the instructions given.
Bruising and Swelling
A degree of bruising and swelling will be present after neck liposuction. These issues can last for three to six weeks. However, most patients see a big improvement within days of their procedure!
To minimize the swelling and bruising, apply a cold compress as directed for two to three days following the procedure. It will also help to keep your head and neck elevated at all times, even while sleeping.
Activity Restrictions
Various activities will be prohibited during the course of neck lipo recovery. Patients must not bend forward, strain, or lift anything for at least three weeks. It will be important to avoid side-to-side head movement while the neck tissues are healing.
The patient can resume normal daily activities within a week. Strenuous physical activities may be prohibited for about four weeks, depending on the recovery rate of the patient.
Follow-Up Appointment
A follow-up appointment will be scheduled with Dr. Ganchi. This will allow him to evaluate the progress of the healing process. The doctor will check on the incisions, ensure that no complications have occurred, and clear the patient to resume certain activities based on how well the tissues have healed.
Results
The patient can see visible changes immediately after the neck liposuction procedure. However, swelling and bruising will obscure the full results.
It will take a few weeks before the skin shrinks and tightens in the neck area. The jawline will become more defined within three months, and full results may be apparent after six months or after the neck area has healed completely.
