What Can Botox Be Used to Treat?
Botox Cosmetic can treat a variety of facial-aging issues, including crow’s feet, horizontal forehead wrinkles, fine vertical lines between the brows, chin wrinkles, and vertical neck bands.
Botox also has a number of other uses, including jawline contouring, treatment of tooth grinding (bruxism), and treatment of excessive underarm sweating (hyperhidrosis).
Patients who are looking to smooth away moderate and harsh midface wrinkles or restore volume to areas like the cheeks cannot achieve optimal results with Botox. For these issues, injectable dermal fillers are the more effective option.
The Science Behind Botox
Botox is an injectable treatment manufactured by Allergan and is composed of purified botulinum toxin. This neurotoxin protein is responsible for botulism.
When it is medically purified and the appropriate dose is injected, however, it can safely stop signals from the nerves from reaching targeted facial muscles. This allows them to relax, in turn letting the wrinkled overlying skin lie flat and smooth.
Your Consultation
During your consultation, Dr. Ganchi will discuss your complete medical history with you. This will include any allergies, past procedures, and medications/supplements currently being taken.
Dr. Ganchi will ask you about your treatment goals and will examine your targeted wrinkles. He will then walk you through the treatment process, including any necessary preparation and aftercare steps. You can ask any questions you may have.
The Treatment Process
A Botox session is very quick and simple, typically requiring only 20 minutes or less to perform. At the start, the targeted wrinkles are marked as a guide for the injector. Anesthesia of any kind is not typically required, and the procedure is quite comfortable.
The Botox injections will then be precisely delivered to the marked sites. The exact number of units of Botox required will vary from patient to patient.
After Your Botox Treatment
Once your Botox treatment session is done, you will be able to go right back to your daily activities. Because of this, Botox is often called a “lunchtime treatment.” No recovery time is needed, unlike with invasive surgical procedures.
Slight bruising, swelling, and/or redness may be present at the injection sites for a short time. Avoid heavy sun exposure immediately after treatment as recommended by your injector.
Typically, Botox injections show full results in around seven to ten days. After three to four months, they will fade, and you may return for a maintenance treatment if desired. Treatments have been shown to offer cumulative benefits.
How Much Does Botox Cost?
Botox cost is based on a number of factors. The price of this treatment option is affected by the size and number of treated areas and the number of units of Botox required.
