Why Choose a Breast Lift?
The number-one reason to undergo a breast lift, also known as a mastopexy, is to enhance or restore the shape of your breasts after pregnancy, breastfeeding, or major weight loss.
If your breasts point downward or if the nipples/areolae are positioned beneath the breasts, this procedure is an excellent option.
Additionally, if your breasts are asymmetrical or if they have an unusual shape that makes you self-conscious, then mastopexy is right for you. It can improve symmetry and restore your breasts to a more natural and rounded shape.
Remember, the breast lift is specifically used to address breast shape issues. To enlarge the breasts, breast augmentation with implants is the better option.
In some cases, a breast lift and a breast augmentation can be performed during the same surgical session. This is called augmentation mastopexy. A breast lift with implants requires only a single recovery period and provides comprehensive breast enhancement.
Which Lift Is Best for Me?
During your consultation, Dr. Ganchi will perform an examination and advise you on the best type of mastopexy surgery for you.
There are three types to choose from:
- Donut Lift (Periareolar Lift) – This corrects minor to moderate sagging and involves two concentric circles around the areola.
- Lollipop Lift (Vertical Lift) – This is used to address moderate sagging. It features the creation of a circular incision around the areola and an incision down to the breast crease.
- Anchor Lift (Inverted-T Lift) – This rectifies breasts that sag severely and are pendulous. It involves creation of a lollipop incision, along with a curved incision along the breast crease.

What Happens During the Breast Lift Procedure?
Breast lifts are mostly performed on an outpatient basis. The procedure lasts for an hour or two. First, the patient is given general anesthesia or a combination of local anesthesia and sedation.
Once the anesthesia has taken effect and the patient is comfortable, the chosen incisions are created. Dr. Ganchi removes the excess skin and reshapes the breast tissues while also lifting up the nipples and areolae. Areolae that are stretched or oversized can also be reduced. Finally, incisions are closed with the help of surgical stitches.
The Mastopexy Recovery Process
After surgery, your breasts will be bandaged, or you may be asked to wear a surgical bra. Mild swelling and soreness will be felt, but you can walk around in your home on the day of the surgery. Bruising will also be present for a time.
After a week, you can most likely return to work. After around four to six weeks, you will be able to resume strenuous activities like heavy exercise and sports. After eight weeks, you may resume wearing underwire bras.
Once all healing is complete and swelling has fully disappeared, the breasts will look more proportional and natural. Look over our breast lift before-and-after photos to learn more.

Breast Lift FAQs
Is a breast lift suitable after significant weight loss?
Yes, breast lift surgery is commonly chosen after major weight loss because the breasts may lose volume and begin to sag as the skin stretches out. A lift can help restore a firmer, more youthful perky shape once the weight has stabilized.
Can I undergo a breast lift if I have existing breast implants?
Yes, many women with implants choose to have a breast lift if the breasts have shifted, sagged, or changed over time. The exact plan depends on implant position, skin quality, and the look the patient wants to achieve.
Will a breast lift change the sensation in my breasts or nipples?
Some patients notice temporary changes in breast or nipple sensation after surgery because swelling and healing can affect the nerves. Sensation should improve gradually over the following weeks or months as the tissues recover.
Can a breast lift correct stretch marks?
A breast lift may improve the appearance of stretch marks if they are located on skin that is removed during surgery. However, this treatment is not specifically designed for reducing stretch marks.
Can I wear regular bras after surgery?
You will typically start with supportive garments before transitioning back to regular bras. Timing depends on your healing progress and comfort level.
Can a breast lift improve posture?
While not a primary goal, some patients feel more confident and naturally stand straighter after surgery. However, it does not directly correct structural posture issues.
